Summary: The Saturdays is the first in a series of books about the Melendy family. Mona, the eldest child, is thirteen, wants to be an actress and is forever reciting Shakespeare. Rush is twelve, wants to be an engineer when he grows up, and is a promising pianist. Miranda (called Randy) is ten and a half, loves art, and, despite her enjoyment of dancing, is bound to be a bit clumsy and not very tactful in other parts of life. Oliver is six and the youngest. He is calm, methodical and determined, if not nearly as imaginative as his siblings. In this book, the Melendy's find their Saturday pocket money insufficient for spending their Saturdays as they would like and consequently form I.S.A.A.C. (Independent Saturday Afternoon Adventure Club), pooling their resources. Each contributor takes a turn spending the whole amount. Before long, I.S.A.A.C. is in operation and every Saturday is definitely one to remember. 192 pps., copyright 1941
