Pride and Prejudice

Summary

Author
: Jane Austen

Summary: Pride and Prejudice is a  novel, set during the Regency era, at the time of England's preparation for a war with France; a world where women's primary goal in life is to marry "well." The story is seen with irony through the eyes of a young woman, Elizabeth Bennet, as she rides the waves of society, the militia spends the winter in town, romances develop, and she meets the mysterious and haughty Mr. Darcy.

Our Angle Our Angle

I generally dislike romance novels, but was surprised to find that I like Pride and Prejudice very much. The use of language is excellent, the main character admirable, the story distinctly lacking in silly "mush" and the personalities well developed;  some of them, such as the silly Mrs. Bennet, and the extremely obsequious Mr. Collins, are hilariously funny, if a bit embarrassing at times in their foolishness. Sharp and witty, this is a "must-read."

Addendum: Bethany wrote this review when she was 16. It has subsequently become one of her favorite books.

End Slavery

The best way to show your appreciation for this free service:

Free the slaves

For many years, our focus was on helping families train their own children. Our heart is still there, but this season of life has us focused on something old, yet new – slavery. More people are held as unwilling slaves today (27 million) than at any time in history, including over 200,000 in the U.S., mostly women and children.

If you appreciate the service BookAngles has provided over the years to you and others, then we invite you to show that appreciation with a donation to our work with International Teams.
