Summary: Orphaned Meggy MacIntosh lives in Edinburgh. Her story begins in 1775, just as the colonies' relations with England are becoming most strained. When she manages to run away on a ship bound for the Carolina colony, her plan is to find her aunt, of whom she has heard heroic stories, and to find a place in her aunt's household, thus becoming useful and needed again.

Our Angle

Meggy Macintosh has an interesting and unusual storyline. It tells of the beginning of the American revolution, not from the perspective of a group that is fighting for independence or a group of loyalists, but from the viewpoint of the more divided and less decided Scottish immigrants.A unique perspective which I enjoyed.
