I liked this thought-provoking book.  The human consequences of the Civil War are beautifully portrayed from Abraham Lincoln down to a local farm boy.

Across Five Aprils also shows several different honorable men's opposing opinions about the war, as observed from the viewpoint of a boy who doesn't know what to believe. You get many facts and opinions which portray the passionate beliefs on both sides of the conflict and  are left to draw your own conclusions; or you can accept Jethro's —that there is no right conclusion except for that which a man's conscience tells him is right.
